About

As a 30-something from Eastwood, a great deal of my life has been spent in and around the concept of 'DH Lawrence Heritage'. But beyond knowing he was A) a famous writer and B) used to live round 'ere, I knew nothing about him.

And so, after moving back to Eastwood after various moves away, I picked up a DHL book (Women In Love), and decided to give it a try. The story and prose both surprised me as I enjoyed getting stuck into it. But the bit that really sang out to me was Eastwood. The town is never mentioned in the book, nor are any of the local landmarks or areas. But the town and its surrounding lept out of the page in a way I found exciting and new - it was the first time I had ever felt a real afinity and personal history in the settings of a fictional work.

This blog is my way of pulling out some of the real and obsure places from Lawrences' writings - testing some of my own ideas about where they are, but also showing some of the history of them. I'm no DH Lawrence expert, nor a buff on local history - but I do want to learn more about these. The blog will concentrate mainly on the places in DHL's writings around Eastwood - but also around the globe, especially where local or knowledgable people wish to contribute a post.

I'll also post anything relevent to link to other DH Lawrence news stories or sites - if I miss yours, do let me know.
